Natural dyes for wool and silk dyeing
Over the years Silvateam has developed a range of natural dyes used primarily in wool and silk dyeing where a natural process is required.
These dyes are made from vegetable extracts, obtained by steeping the roots, leaves and berries of various botanical species in water. They can be used alone or in combination. Many natural dyes require the use of chemicals called mordants, such as potassium alum, aluminium sulphate, ferrous sulphate and copper sulphate, to bind the dye to the textile fibres. These form an insoluble complex with the dye and fix it to the tissue.
Silvateam natural dyes are easily soluble in water and sold in powder form.
The following table shows the natural dyes with their main technical characteristics. Silvateam’s technicians are pleased to provide customers with all the information necessary for the use of these products.
