TAA®
Highly selected tannins for animal breeding
TAA® consists of a natural extract rich in tannins obtained from chestnut wood (Castanea sativa), suitable for ruminants.
The presence of tannins in a ruminants’ diet can reduce the soluble protein degradability in the rumen and consequently, it can increase the protein availability in the intestine. Moreover, it can influence the weight gain and the milk production.
Some reports indicate the dietary use of tannins reduces the incidence of diarrhoea in livestock.

Benefits
TAA® improves the protein absorption. Hydrolysable tannins are high reactive molecules capable of binding proteins. In ruminants, tannins act as protein bypassers and they can strongly reduce the protein attack from the ruminal microflora, without impairing cellulose degradation. This characteristic varies depending on their concentration, chemical structure and molecular weight. In the intestine, the pH rises causing the progressive release of tannins from the tannin-protein complex (pH dependent), allowing the progressive assimilation of proteins in the intestine.
It has been suggested that the presence of dietary tannins can increase saliva production. This increases the salivary flow in the rumen and it may increase the level of salivary urea. The urea can be used by rumen microbes for their growth and multiplication.
Furthermore TAA® can have an important effect in selecting gastrointestinal micro flora responsible for different diseases.
